Throwback to Caloundra’s Printing Past!

Ever wondered how Caloundra’s very first newspaper was made? Meet the Intertype machine, the hot‑metal workhorse that brought The Caloundra Topic to life back in 1947!

This beauty was operated by none other than Jack Crees, editor, advertising rep, and all‑round newsroom powerhouse. Jack didn’t just write the stories… he literally set them in metal.

First issue: 5 April 1947 Ran until: mid‑1950s Job of the machine: Casting lines of type for every single page of the paper!

It’s a brilliant reminder of how hands on local news once was long before digital layouts and instant publishing. A true piece of Caloundra history!

The printing press can be found at Landsborough Museum, 4 Maleny Street, Landsborough QLD 4550 - https://heritage.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/landsborough-museum
