The Story Bridge isn’t just an icon on Brisbane’s skyline - it’s a triumph of Australian engineering , shaped by the vision of Dr J.J.C. Bradfield, the mastermind behind the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Our latest video brings its creation to life , revealing how hundreds of workers , bold design decisions , and years of determination forged the colossal steel cantilever structure into the landmark we know today .
The Story Bridge is named after John Douglas Story, a prominent Queensland public servant who played a major role in the state’s economic and infrastructure development during the early 20th century.
We also wish to acknowledge Chief Surveyor Clifford Mason Calder, whose exceptional precision and expertise ensured the two spans met flawlessly during the bridge closure. His contribution was instrumental in achieving the remarkable engineering accuracy that this project is remembered for.
