The old Peters Ice Cream Factory in West End (Brisbane, QLD), built in 1928 is the kind of place that makes you instantly nostalgic, even if you weren’t alive when it was churning out choc‑coated happiness. Once the beating heart of Brisbane’s ice‑cream production, this big, brick beauty filled the suburb with the sweet smell of frozen treats for decades, basically the original “scented candle” of West End.

Back in its heyday, the factory pumped out iconic Aussie favourites and kept Brisbane cool long before air‑conditioning was standard. Locals still talk about the days when you could walk past and catch a whiff of vanilla, chocolate, or whatever magic they were mixing inside. It was industrial manufacturing, sure - but it was also dessert heaven disguised as a workplace

Today, the old Peters site has been transformed into a creative and shopping hub, but the nostalgia sticks like melted ice cream on a summer footpath. Every time you walk by, you can almost hear the hum of machinery and imagine a river of ice cream flowing behind those walls. West End changes fast, but this place will always be the suburb’s sweetest memory.
