Over the past month we’ve received a bunch of great questions, so we thought it was time to start answering them.
Welcome to the very first Dave & Malou Q&A session - and thank you for being part of the journey!
If you have a question you’d like us to include in a future Q&A, feel free to contact us via Facebook Messenger or email us at [email protected]
So, off we go!
Q: Can I make a recommendation for an article or short video? A: Absolutely! The easiest way is to message us on our Facebook page - just hit the Message button and send your suggestion. You can also email us at [email protected]
If we use your idea, we’ll make sure to credit you in the article description.
We’re also happy to consider articles about your ancestors or family members. Send us a brief description of who they were and what makes their story worth telling. If there’s a tale to share, we’ll look at putting an article together - If you have photos, feel free to include with your message.
Q: Can you make your videos longer? A: We’d love to! Instagram and Facebook currently limit videos to a maximum length of 3 minutes - that’s their rule, not ours.
The good news is that later this year we’ll be releasing longer videos on our YouTube channel, aiming for 10–15 minutes each. These will dive deeper into history, travel, and new technology, giving us the space to tell richer stories and explore more detail. (Got an idea for something you’d like us to dive into in a longer video? Just tell us!)
Q: Do you only do Queensland‑related content? A: No, not at all! Our articles feature stories from all across Australia, as well as international locations. Wherever we travel - locally, nationally, or overseas - our cameras come with us. We take photos, explore the history behind the places we visit, and share those stories with you. Since we’re based in South East Queensland, you may notice a little more Queensland content, but our coverage is definitely not limited to it.
Q: Why did you start this Facebook page? A: We both have a passion for photography, history, and travel. Before creating this page, we used to share individual posts on our personal social media accounts, and people really enjoyed them - we even built a decent following over time.
After a few years of posting, we decided it was time to create dedicated channels where we could share our articles, photos, and stories with a wider audience. This page is our way of bringing all that content together and sharing it with people who love the same things we do.
Q: What period in history do you like the most? A: Dave: That’s a tough one - but if I had to choose, I’d go with the Industrial Revolution, roughly 1760 to the early 1900s. The world changed so dramatically in such a short time. There were incredible discoveries, groundbreaking inventions, and huge waves of migration to far‑off places. It was a period that reshaped almost every part of modern life.
Malou: For me, I’ve always had a deep interest in the history of the Philippines, especially the period of Spanish influence. The Spanish first arrived in 1521, when Ferdinand Magellan landed on the islands. Permanent Spanish colonisation began later, in 1565, when Miguel López de Legazpi established the first settlement in Cebu. It’s a fascinating era that shaped so much of the country’s culture, identity, and heritage. (…and of course, I love Australian history as well!)
Q: Dave, why do you have stains on your suit? A: It’s one of those long‑running jokes. I’m always the one trying to get the perfect photo - which usually means climbing (or falling!) down banks/steps, standing in rivers, climbing trees, and generally ending up where I probably shouldn’t be. So yes… I’m a bit prone to getting my clothes dirty. Comes with the job!
Q: What’s with the Victorian dress code on your digital avatars? A: Ah, it’s elementary, my friend. It’s our little nod to two of our favourite fictional detectives - all the charm, none of the deerstalker hats. We figured the Victorian look gives off just the right mix of mystery, mischief, and “we like to investigate history.”
Thanks for taking the time to read through our Q&A - we appreciate you being here. Until next time!
