If you’ve ever cruised down the Landsborough–Maleny Road and wondered why there’s a lookout with such a quirky name, you’re not alone! The Skipper Musk Teahouse Lookout is one of the Sunshine Coast hinterland’s most charming little mysteries and yes, it’s named after a real teahouse that once served travellers climbing the range.
Back in the early 1900s, Mrs. Skipper and Mrs. Daisy Musk ran the original Old Tea House Rooms near this very spot. Bullock drivers and early motorists would stop here to rest after the steep haul up Bald Knob. It became a beloved waypoint long before cafés and servo pies ruled the roadside.
Fast‑forward to today, and the lookout once again has a view Overgrown vegetation was recently cleared, restoring those sweeping coastal views that had been hidden for years. And if you’re lucky, you’ll even catch a Coffee Van parked there - a modern nod to the old teahouse tradition of serving weary travellers.
It’s a tiny slice of hinterland history that still brings people together, from locals grabbing a cuppa to road‑trippers chasing views. Next time you’re heading up the range, pull over, take in the scenery, and raise a mental toast to Skipper and Musk, the original queens of the mountain stopover.
SatNavers - Head to 482 Landsborough Maleny Rd, Bald Knob QLD 4552 to find the lookout.
