Ever heard of the Cherry Venture? This legendary cargo ship washed up on Teewah Beach back in 1973 after battling a wild storm - and instead of sailing off into history, it became one of Queensland’s most iconic beachside landmarks. For more than 30 years, its rusting hull sat proudly in the sand like a giant, accidental art installation.

Originally built in Sweden in 1945, the ship had already lived a few lives (and a few names!) before its dramatic final chapter on the Sunshine Coast. Locals and 4WD adventurers loved stopping by for photos, graffiti, and a good yarn about the storm that brought it ashore. It was the kind of place you visited once… and then again every time you brought new friends.

By the 2000s, the wreck had weathered one too many tides and became unsafe, so it was removed in 2007 - but the legend lives on. Today, a sign marks the spot where the Cherry Venture once stood, and the memories of that massive, mysterious ship still drift through beach stories up and down the coast.
