Brisbane has fully embraced the bin chicken - and thanks to a local artist, the city now has its very own trail of quirky, character-filled ibis sculptures scattered across rooftops, shopfronts, and neighbourhoods. These metal creations, known as “Binnies,” were designed by Brisbane artist Ryan Forster (Sethius Art), who originally installed them guerrilla‑style around town before they became a full community project.

More than a dozen Binnies can now be found across Greater Brisbane, each customised to suit its location. There’s the XXXX Binny in Milton holding a beer, a barber‑themed Binny in Sherwood with scissors, and many more perched proudly on businesses and homes. They’ve become a light‑hearted local attraction, celebrating Brisbane’s unofficial mascot - the Australian White Ibis.

The sculptures are made from metal and designed to be durable, eye-catching, and fun. Forster created the Bin Chicken Trail so that businesses and residents could officially adopt a Binny, helping prevent theft while turning the project into a city‑wide art experience. Each sculpture is custom-made, often themed to match the personality of the place it lives.

Whether you love them or laugh at them, these sculptures have become a uniquely Brisbane blend of humour, art, and local pride.

Check out the artist’s website - they’ve even put together a map showing where you can spot the Binny’s around Brisbane: https://www.sethius.art/binny
